At first I thought it's a Bec de corbin, but it is not.
With the two handles/ grips it looks like a tonfa, but the double edge is not good for that, but it's good as leverage for putting more power behind a thrust.
So, use it like a scythe in close-combat versus better armored opponents?
I can't exactly see how thick the mainblade is but i bet you it levers armor as easy as bones for breaking or chitinous
exoskeletons to get the squishy inside.

wouldn't this work better as a single edge weapon?

While I can understand that, a single edge could be braised against the back of the forearm for blocking, letting you deflect powerful blows. With a double bladed weapon you can't, or at least probably shouldn't, do that. To me at lest, if your going to have a bladed tonfa, a single edge just makes more sense.

ehehe you aren't the first that have noticed that to me, well, when i have a bit more time i'll do a single edge tonfa blade :)

I would call it a Tonfa, but Akurojin is an awesome name! ^^
